Robi received international recognition for digital innovation and environmental protection

Robi Axiata Limited recently won the ‘Innovation Leadership Award’ and the ‘Green Telecom Award’ at the 19th Business Leader of the Year International held in India.

Robi has won the Innovation Leadership Award in recognition of its outstanding initiative in the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) in coping with the Corona epidemic. On the other hand, Robi was awarded the Green Telecom Award for his outstanding efforts in reducing carbon emissions by efficiently using energy to protect the environment.

Robi developed an AI-powered crowd-sourcing-based data analytics solution to help the government detect the spread of the first corona virus in the telecom industry early in the epidemic. The operator has integrated government-published reports on the spread of the corona virus and other data from the public to create the Covid map. This information was added to the My Robi app for Robi customers.

Robi has issued a real-time-based Covid warning message to customers across the country as it enters high-risk areas as the sole operator. The operator has also assisted customers with data on secure recharge points using data analytics, machine learning and AI technology on a case-by-case basis.

Using the same digital solution ensured a substantial amount of recharge for retailers even in the face of strict lockdown. In addition, Robi has made separate offers for customers who use a large amount of data using sophisticated analytics solutions.

The Green Telecom Award highlights Robi’s experimental move to generate solar power at the BTS site under the Net Metering Scheme approved by the Electricity Authority under the Net Metering Policy 2018. As a result of this step, Robi has been able to save cost in using electricity.

In order to reduce the carbon emissions of Axiata Group Berhad, the parent company of Robi in Malaysia, to zero, Robi has undertaken a project to install 6.1 MW of solar power at more than 400 sites with a target of generating 13 million units of electricity per year. At the end of the project, Robi is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 5,381 tons a year, which is equivalent to 64,332 trees.

The 19th edition of the Business Leader of the Year Awards program received more than 640 applications from around the world. The telecast partner of the program was ET Now Channel and ABP Network of India and the print media partner was Business Standard.

The awards are given to organizations and individuals who have been successful in global and local business and have made significant contributions to the field of business. The World Leadership Congress and Awards present the ‘Business Leader of the Year’ award. Press Release.
