READING — When the latest Bikes & Beers cycling event comes to the Lehigh Valley Aug. 20, Reading’s Unique Snacks will be there.
The 100-year-old, sixth-generation, family-owned snack company’s Sourdough Craft Beer Pretzel Rings are the official pretzel for the 2022 Bikes & Beers’ Cycling and Brewery events. The 2022 series is being held in conjunction with 24 breweries across 14 states and comes to Easton’s Weyerbacher Brewing on Aug. 20.
This is the second year that Unique Snacks has been recognized as the Official Pretzel sponsor for the event.
“As a sponsor for the Bikes & Beers 2022 events, we provide participants with our Sourdough Craft Beer Pretzel Rings as the perfect complement to the craft beers adults enjoy after the cycling event,” Justin Spannuth, vice president and chief operating officer at Unique Snacks, said in an emailed response to questions. “This sponsorship has been a great way for our team to support community events in the region that improve biking trails and help Pennsylvanians live active and fuller lives.”
The Saturday, Aug. 20, event being hosted by Weyerbacher Brewing will feature 15-, 30- and 45-mile morning rides though Easton and the surrounding area, followed by a post-ride party at the brewery, 905 Line St., Easton.

Spannuth said Unique Snacks first got involved with Bikes & Beers in 2019 with a trial event. The next year, he said, the company was lined up to do all of the events, but all events went virtual due to COVID-19.
Spannuth said Unique supported the “major and impressive pivot” of that year’s event and supplied products for the gift boxes that were mailed to the event’s registered riders.
In 2021, the title of official pretzel was offered to Unique Snacks. It gives the brand exclusivity as the only hard pretzel maker able to participate, according to Spannuth. It also strengthens the company’s relationship with the Bikes & Beers team, “as well as becoming a prominent and consistent brand to the returning riders,” he said.
Unique provides a snack bag and a lanyard to put the pretzels on.
“If someone comes back for a refill, we will give them additional product because we are happy to see them enjoy the product,” he said.
In the past three years, Unique has supplied more than 20,000 bags of its snack-size sourdough rings and lanyards.
Spannuth said response has been good, with participants saying they enjoy the Bikes & Beers events.
“Every participant is helping to protect the biking trails and paths they enjoy, so they are very receptive to the brands that are supporting the causes they care about,” he added.
Spannuth added that as a family business, Unique Snacks believes in supporting the community, and the Bikes & Beers program events are a great way to “connect people with each other and exercise while in a fun atmosphere and increase awareness for our brand.”
