The Giant Co. recently donated 250 hams to Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank in Spring Township, Berks County.
In addition to making the donation of much needed food items, Giant employees volunteered to pack hunger relief boxes and helped organize and restock shelves in advance of the holiday season.
The Dec. 7 donation to Helping Harvest is part of The Giant Co.’s ongoing commitment to help community organizations that are working to combat food insecurity and support families in need.
This year, a total of 3,000 hams and 1,150 chickens will be donated to 18 community food banks and food pantries, according to the company, building on its hunger efforts in November, when more than 13,000 Thanksgiving turkeys and chickens were donated to organizations combating food insecurity.
In addition, throughout November and December, Giant employees are expected to volunteer more than 500 hours to support community organizations.

On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, the company kicked off its annual holiday giving effort — donating $57,500 to 11 community organizations, including several in the Greater Philadelphia region.
Through Dec. 31, Giant customers and team members can round up their purchase at checkout to benefit their local food bank or pantry or by purchasing reusable bags to benefit Feeding America. In 2021 more than $3 million was donated. So far this year, $6.5 million has been donated by customers rounding up at the register, the company said.
