Riverfront Federal Credit Union launches annual Awareness Makes Cents campaign

Riverfront Federal Credit Union is getting ready to kick off its annual Awareness Makes Cents campaign — to put the focus on breast cancer awareness and early detection. This is the sixth year for the campaign.

Starting on Saturday, Oct. 1, individuals can donate their spare change to the campaign through an ITM transaction at Riverfront’s Spring Township branch, 2609 Keiser Blvd. On Oct. 6, the branch will be selling small fresh flower bouquets from Stein’s Flowers.

Throughout the month of October, Squawk Café, located on the first floor of Riverfront’s Keiser Boulevard location, will sell a special drink called The Strawberry Vanilla Palmer — with all sales proceeds going to support Riverfront’s campaign.

According to a press release, the campaign will feature a series of additional fundraising activities, including sales of custom designed T-shirts, paracord bracelets, fleece blankets, a Memory Bear raffle and prize-filled piggy banks. Riverfront also offers a custom Awareness Makes Cents instant issue debit card for purchase year-round, with $10 of each sale donated to local Berks County breast cancer service organizations.

As in past years, Riverfront will host a silent auction of ceramic piggy banks, hand-painted by staff, via Facebook. Bidding for the piggy banks begins Oct. 21. Proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS).

As part of its Awareness Makes Cents campaign this year, for each fleece blanket purchased, Riverfront will donate one blanket to patients undergoing treatment at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. And Riverfront will also be making a $5,000 donation to Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center to be directed towards the purchase of a 3D mammography unit.
