Mast Roofing is giving away a roof to a deserving family

OLEY — The name may have changed, but the mission remains the same — to relieve a local family of the stress of worrying about the condition of their roof.

Mast Roofing & Construction Inc. is currently accepting nominations for its tenth annual roof give-away program — Project Peace of Mind. It is a new name for a program Mast Roofing has implemented since 2013, previously known as No Roof Left Behind.

According to Corrie Mast, director of the Project Peace of Mind program for Mast Roofing, No Roof Left Behind was a national organization. When that program ceased operations, Mast Roofing didn’t want to end its initiative, so the company developed something new.

Mast said when No Roof Left Behind ended, “we knew we wanted to continue giving people ‘peace of mind’ when it comes to their roof.”

She said 2021 was an “interim year.”

“No Roof Left Behind was no longer operational, and we didn’t have time to fully develop our own program, so last year we just did it. We had time to really think it through for this year,” she said.

The deadline for submitting nominations for this year’s program is June 15.

The program is open to residents of the five counties Mast Roofing services: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh and Montgomery.

Individuals can nominate themselves or someone they know that needs a new roof. Nominees must own the home and must be current on their mortgage and taxes.

Mast said what the company is looking for in the nominations is fairly simple.

“We’re looking for a family or individual that needs it. We’re looking for someone who even making payments would be too difficult for,” she said, adding It might be someone who is ill or who is taking care of their parents or a family member.

The nomination form is available online. It asks for information about the nominee and the person submitting the nomination. It also asks about the condition of the roof — including the age of the house, whether the roof leaks, the current roof material, the style of the house and then a description of the roof.

The nomination form also asks why the individual is a good candidate for the project — whether they have experienced financial hardships or had an unexpected situation arise. .

“We ask them to tell us why they need the roof. Some people are humble and don’t want to say a lot — but we want them to say as much as they can,” Mast added.

The form also asks for photos if possible.

Once the nominations are in, the management team at Mast Roofing will narrow the submissions down to a group of finalists. Then, the entire 20-member team of Mast Roofing and Construction will vote to select a winner.

The roof recipient will be revealed online on July 1, 2022 and an installation celebration scheduled, where, according to the company’s website, “our whole crew — office staff included — is on site.”

Mast said it didn’t take long for the company to decide to continue the program under a different name.

“We have just felt so blessed over the years. In our industry there are times when work dries up. It’s not a given to have work,” Mast said. “We’re so blessed that we have work. Because of that, we have been able to give away a free roof. There’s no reason to stop. We’re going to keep doing it.”
