To eliminate the struggle of opening stubborn jar lids, especially for the elderly and disabled, Boyer’s Food Markets has become the nation’s first supermarket chain to implement a new, easy-to-open lid for its pasta sauce products.
The patented EEASY Lid allows consumers to vent a jar by pressing a button on the lid.
The lid can then be removed with a fraction of the force needed normally.
“With our new Boyer’s line of pasta sauce, we’re giving people a great product, but we decided that wasn’t enough,” Anthony Gigliotti, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Boyer’s, said in a press release. “We also wanted to give them a better consumer experience and put an end to the frustration of fighting to open a jar while trying to get dinner on the table.”
Boyer’s held a ribbon cutting ceremony Oct. 12 at its Orwigsburg location to celebrate the EEASY lid’s introduction into all four varieties of its private label pasta sauce line — meat, mushroom, traditional, and tomato basil.
As of Oct. 12, Boyer’s markets across Pennsylvania are now stocked with the EEASY-lid sauces.

About 26% of the U.S. population has a disability that prevents them from opening traditional jars, and millions more struggle due to conditions like arthritis, tendonitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome, according to Consumer Convenience Technologies, an Ohio-based packaging solutions firm that created the EEASY Lid.
The company noted that in Pennsylvania alone, there are nearly three million people living with arthritis and more than two million people aged 65 or older.
While the EEASY Lid will open the market to people with age-related difficulties and disabilities, it’s designed to ease jar opening for anyone, of any age, who has ever struggled with jar opening, Brandon Bach, president of Consumer Convenience Technologies, said in a press release.
“The EEASY Lid … eliminates the dangerous hacks that people resort to when opening a jar,” Bach said.
The EEASY LID is the first major jar lid innovation in more than 75 years, according to Consumer Convenience Technologies.
The lid has seen some success with implementation before: In 2020, Boyer’s ran a case study with the EEASY Lid on a private-label pasta sauce brand.
At the end of the study, sales of the sauce jars with the EEASY Lid increased by 341%.
The lid is now on Boyer’s brand pasta sauces in all 19 of its stores across Pennsylvania, according to the supermarket.
Boyer’s has four locations in Berks County, in Bernville, Birdsboro, and Fleetwood and Womelsdorf.
